G.O.P Event #4 - Bay Day (Choose An Event)

All events for Bay Day start begin at 11:00 am and continue through 4:00 pm

*Please note there are three locations to choose from. Please choose ONE. Also, traffic is expected to be heavy en route to all locations as state beach parking is free on Governor’s Bay Day and the Folk Festival is at Fort Adams in Newport. Also, there will be no formal presentations or raffles but there will be many give-a-ways and free activities.


Colt State Park - Bristol
  • Team Check-In 11a.m.- 1p.m.
  • DEM Fish & Wildlife – Touch Tank
  • DEM Parks & Recreation Naturalist Program
  • DEM Division of Agriculture – fresh produce presentations and cooking demonstrations with chefs from Kid’s First
  • DEM Division of Forestry – Self-guided tree identification hikes starting at John H. Chafee Monunment.
  • Usborne Books and More – interactive educational books with environmental and health related themes
  • Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. recycling educational materials and appearances by MaxMan, the recycling superhero
  • Tutor Doctor – Prize wheel and information about tutoring services for students of all ages.
  • Garelick Farms – free beverages (limited quantities)
  • Museum of Natural History 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Rhode Island Rocks! Geology Demonstration. (Bring rocks and minerals you find for identification by a geologist.)
  • Ultimate Frisbee Demonstration – Utlearsh Shah
  • "Dancin' With Hoops" Hula Hooping – Creative Game Parties
  • US Environmental Protection Agency – Touch Tank and Ocean Research Vessel
  • DEM Office of Criminal Investigation – Environmental Watchdog Program
  • Harmony Design and Construction LLC- Information on how to become more environmental friendly and having a healthy home

Governor’s Bay Day Activities at Colt

  • COAST 93.3 and B101- 9 a.m.—11 a.m. Paw Sox tickets, t-shirts, and other giveaways. Take away crafts for kids
  • Vini Ames Concert- 12 p.m.—2 p.m.
  • URI’s Master Gardeners - Gardening tips
  • Complimentary Neighborhood Picnic-11:30-1:00 on a first come first serve basis.

Roger W. Wheeler State Beach - Narragansett
  • Team Check-In 11 a.m. – 1 p.m
  • URI’s 4-H Program – Explore environmental and nature topics like insects, plants, water quality, and wind
  • Rhode Island Department of Health (with Rhode Island Hospital and ABC 6) – (cosponsored by Rhode Island Hospital, ABC 6 and the Rhode Island Department of Health) – free skin cancer screenings and sunscreen as well as skin cancer prevention education.
  • Face Painting - RI DEM Staff

Governor’s Bay Day Activities at Wheeler

  • Lite Rock 105- 9 a.m.--12 p.m. Family friendly arts & crafts (Sand art, recycled CD ornaments), “Plinko” for Lite Rock prizes, and enter to win tickets to fun family theme parks (Water Wizz, Canobie Lake Park, and Six Flags New England)
  • Department of Elderly Affairs/ the Point- 9 a.m.—12 p.m.  Information booth with brochures, fact sheets, booklets, and giveaways
  • Local Artist Allison Newsome, sponsored by Rhode Island State Council of the Arts- 10a.m. — 4 p.m. Will create Governor’s Bay Day sand sculptures
  • Department of Children, Youth and Families Foster Parent Program presents “Fishing for Families”- 12 p.m.— 4 p.m. Biomes touch and feel tank with sea creatures and traveling tidepool
  • News Talk 630/99.7 FM- 1 p.m. — 4 p.m
  • Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency – Mobile Command Center Tours 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

 

Brenton Point - Newport
  • Team Check-In - from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center.

Governor’s Bay Day Activities

  • Ocean-Themed Kite Flying Demonstrations with Kitt-Kites and friends

 

Please note that Brenton Point will be difficult to get to on the 31st due to the Fort Adams Folk Festival. Please be aware of heavy traffic delays, etc.
